MOVING TOWARDS A BETTER FUTURE NOW
BACKED BY PEOPLE, DATA & HOPE
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Equal Measures was founded in 2020, during the rise of the Black Lives Matters and other anti-racist movements. Our organisation is rooted in the struggle for and pursuit of racial and social justice for minoritised people. This is not tangential to our mission within hospitality and the drinks industry – it is the foundation of our existence and at the very heart of everything we do.
Over the years, we have been working in the background to lobby for change within governmental bodies and local authorities, operating alongside organisations such as NTIA, Ask for Angela, Mayor of London, Women’s Night Safety Charter, Safer Business Network, Patchwork Hub, and more. We have worked with local councils in some of the most diverse and financially deprived areas where racial inequity is rife and social mobility limited, elevating the voices of those who have been overlooked and bring opportunities, resources, and education to marginalised people out of employment.
We have also done our utmost to champion the work of incredible organisations working to resist hate and bring about legislative justice, such as Good Law Project, Migrants Rights Network, Together Alliance, Spark Community, Trans Legal Clinic, Trans Solidarity Alliance, and many more.
We believe wholeheartedly in equity for all. One of the founding principles of Equal Measures CIC was creating a blueprint for a better and kinder society and industry, working together as an intersectional community to expel injustice and embed safety, dignity & opportunity within our societal, political, and legal structures.
Hospitality is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse industries in the UK. It employs 2.5 million people in the UK – one of the country’s largest workforces – and yet the evidence of systemic racial inequality in who leads, who progresses and who is fairly paid within it is stark and consistent. These people are not statistics, they are individuals with vibrant passions, strong skillsets, and big dreams. We know this from our hundreds of EMbers & thousands of stories shared with us from those who have faced systemic discrimination.
We need to make a change and it needs to happen now.
