Delivering greater equity in the drinks industry

Equal Measures is what I always have dreamed of in our society. Luckily, our modern world has understood that we need to step up collectively and offer equal opportunities - with no exceptions!

GRANT RECIPIENT 2023 - BARTENDER WELFARE & WELLBEING

Working holistically & intersectionally with our industry to improve hospitality for all.

Equal Measures was founded to support marginalised groups and individuals and enrich possibilities for those from Black, Asian, and other minority ethnicities, as well as other marginalised groups, such as queer and gender queer persons, those who are neurodivergent, or who face systemic barriers to their progression.

Through the Education and Mentorship Project we aim to give participants the tools they need to create and sustain rewarding careers. By challenging existing hiring practices, we hope to build awareness of obstacles faced by marginalised groups, and to collaborate with the drinks and hospitality industries to resolve existing biases.

EDUCATION & MENTORSHIP

Equal Measures’ Education & Mentorship Programme is available to anyone who works in the UK cocktail and spirits industry. Upon successful application the participant will be twinned with a leading industry figure, who will take a vested interest in their professional development, and offer mentorship for a minimum of three months.

The participant will be given the opportunity to bolster their CV with fantastic industry relevant courses such as WSET Spirits Level 2 & Level 3, delivered by the world’s leading independent supplier of WSET Spirits education, The Mixing Class. Further opportunities such as Personal Licence courses will also be made available to participants.

COmmunity dayS

Equal Measures Community Days are a series of events, designed to bring the Equal Measures’ mentees, mentors, brand partners, and industry friends together to network, learn, and grow.

forming foundations

The founding motivation behind Equal Measures is that the cocktail industry does not reflect the rich multiculturalism and diversity of Britain. In order to make the cocktail industry a more accessible industry The ‘Forming Foundation’ Outreach Programme will take a three day workshop aimed at offering people from diverse backgrounds the chance to learn all the skills they will need to succeed in starting their career in the trade. With rotating cities each year, and ten candidates recruited in each, this program will give people vocational training.

The first Forming Foundations course took place 24th-26th April 2023 at Milroy’s of Spitalfields. More dates and locations will be announced soon.

I loved the course. Very clear and efficient communication, Rose was a delight to learn from. I found the whole course itself useful, as it lifted my knowledge of spirits and has officially accredited my skill set into a recognised qualification.
